I'm so envious sitting here in my boring office but very much inspired to book our trip for 2012. Izzy your shot of the female Leopard is a cracker! I must say I'm stunningly jealous of the Wild Dog pics my most favourite African animal. Please keep all the posts and newsletters coming, it's helping us get through the long cold Melbourne winter. What a fab afternoon that was watching the buff and the wilddog hunting. Top sighting. Thanks to Patrick, Debra and all the crew at Mwamba for a fantastic and memorable stay. Mum is still talking about it.
I also caught up with Art and Christa in Botswana. They said it rained leopard the day after I left the Valley. Bugger! To make up for it I saw my first ever black rhino in Kruger. :)
Kaye Brown -South Australia in body, South Luangwa in Spirit.

Re: Predators

Hi Jules & Derek, I like all of them but the photo with the five lions in the tree stands out. Patrick was too modest to mention how he tracked and found the first leopard and that it was stalking an Impala until a Hyena buzzed it, or the Porcupine forgotten in the extravaganza. But yes, I did manage to get the video going to capture the Aardvark; but the first few seconds of this exceptional sighting are hard-burned into my memory because it was just an extraordinary close up face on view. Wow!
Patrick's next evening’s drive was merely two Pels Fishing Owls and a last of the daylight big male Leopard on the prowl (leading to much squawking by Baboons and Birds); and that was after I rejected the option of tracking some Lions!"

Re: Aardvark, I presume?

As one of the very fortunate guests to be on the vehicle for that drive, I can attest to the magic of that evening. Not one, but two leopards, a Pel's fishing owl (as requested), and for the finale, Aardvark! If one didn't already know how rare and special this was, Patrick's excitement at this spotting would have clued you in. No fleeting glimpse either, too bad this silly guest had already packed her camera away (lesson learned). Again, thanks to Patrick and our excellent spotter Charles for making my last night drive a perfect one.

Re: First wild dog of the season!

We were there with Patrick when the Wild Dog was sighted. I thought, "what is that" raised the camera but most pics were a blur. I'm sure YY got a shot off. It all happened so fast and the dog had impala on his mind. The leopard..africas spirit cat, the elephant, if there,s one animal that everybody identifies with..its the elephant. And the beautiful carmine bee eaters that bring such a splash of colour to the riverbank. The images are amazing, each for a different reason, depicting a day in the bush during a particular season, but above all they capture the magic of the bush around your camps. For example..The leopard is very much the spirit of the bush, an elusive but magical shadow, which will reveal itself when its ready, and its the stealth hunter of the night.. Stalking to within yards of its prey...and waiting like a coiled spring..waiting to pounce...silent and patient.. On the opposite side of the spectrum..you have the stuningly beautiful carmine bee eater wich with its vibrant colour...flying up and down the riverbank, bringing a carnival of colour to the bush. Superb pictures. I told Ian you'd specifically requested his flat tyre incident :) He's off on leave this weekend and has promised to rustle up some worthy blog entries
Darren's tip on 'easy' has made a world of difference to Derek's footage. I'm gutted we didn't find it earlier, but at least now the slow-mo shots have been banished!
Cheers guys, take care
Jx

Re: Office Africa Aug 2010

Hi Phil,
I sure did - that with a 1.4x converter.
It's a beautiful lens. Always best to get me on info@kaingo.com though as I don't check the blog that often.
I've just attempted to place an order, but I"m not sure if it went through or not, I clicked the submit order buttoon, twice as nothing happened the first time and it has just opened another window. Is there any way to check if it worked.
I ordered peppermint, lavender, peace and calming and raven. I had to enter a new credit card - it has a Zambian billing address (is a UK card) and it wouldn't let me put the zambia billing address so I had to put my UK shipping address. I wonder if this is causing a problme as it has been several mins and the sale doesn't seem to have resolved.
I'm glad you enjoyed the newsletter
with love
Jules

Re: Office Africa Aug 2010

Great photos Jules, the leopard looks like you trained him to perform for you.
